Karen Seroussi DO has been practicing in Austin since 2009, starting with residency and fellowship training at UT here in Austin and then opening Vibrant Minds as a private practice to help children and families in Central Texas with supportive guidance and individualized treatment plans.
Dr. Seroussi comes to Child Psychiatry as a second career, after a strong background in attachment-based child development.. For many years, Dr. Seroussi taught both individuals and small groups as well as spoke at parent education conferences on subjects such as toddler discipline, healthy sleep and other early childhood topics. She also provided support to women as an IBCLC, helping with breastfeeding.
This grew into a commitment to have the tools to help more families, leading to medical school after her own children were school-age. During medical school, Dr. Seroussi became the only medical student at her school to be approved to teach a course for her fellow students. "Parenting skills for Pediatricians" helped inexperienced (non-parent) Pediatricians-in-training learn the basics of parent education. She then continued this teaching journey at Pediatric conferences on topics of children’s mental health.
Dr. Seroussi is a diplomat of the Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with board certification in Adult Psychiatry and also in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and member of multiple professional societies both locally and nationally.

"I like to approach each person or family who seeks help at Vibrant Minds as a part of a bigger picture. You (or your child) are the center of this situation, but there are several layers, other pieces to your psyche from background, environment and daily routine and also life stressors. These are often part of the current issue, maybe subtly, and also can be considered when working on a treatment plan. As such, I will ask you to share your values and priorities, sleep, diet and exercise, any other health issues, daily activities, support system, etc. as comfortable."
"When we get to treatment planning, my primary philosophy is that you are the author of your own (or child’s) life, the expert on yourself or child and the decision-maker on your personal journey to wellness. I will discuss your priorities and goals and then give my professional recommendations. We will then work together on how to best apply a treatment plan to your circumstances. I am your consultant (as the kids would say), NOT your boss."
